When Should It Matter To The Community?

A testimony was shared at the gathering.

A brother who had been a regular for months and been involved with some of the hospitality for the brethren stood to share his testimony. He had hit on hard times to such an extent that he spent weeks living out of his car travelling to and from work but with no place to stay. Eventually, he was able to identify a place of abode and God made it possible for him to get back to his feet in work, in accommodation and in other relationships.

As he finished, there was a stunned silence among the gathering. Things got back to the rhythm of others giving contributions, but the feeling couldn’t be shaken. A friend of the brother approached him to wonder why hadn’t he mentioned anything in all that time he was suffering and yet still turning up and offering hospitality without a hint of complaint. The brother responded that he felt it was something that he could only go through with God. He went on to say that there were some things that were only for some people to go through.

The friend had a problem with this explanation. Had God called us to the community only to hide these things? What did it say about the community that this could take place and no one would notice?

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
