Questions: A Prayerful Reflection

What if you never spoke?

Would we really feel it? Would we really be affected by it? When the Israelites experienced a lack of vision and word from you, did they really suffer for it? Would we know the difference if you stopped speaking?

Or have we set up things to keep ticking over so well that we would never be able to tell the difference? Are our routines so established that we can just keep on ticking over scrambling to perpetuate what will turn out to be nothing at all?

Do we live by your word – the word you have given us for this season? Are desirous to see how we can go onto what you have set for us? Or are we very comfortable where we are? Have we settled for the victories of yesterday to rely on and not really want to move on from that?

I’m not asking for us to be ever on the lookout for the novel and the latest craze and jump on the latest bandwagon of what’s hot and fashionable in the world today. I am not keen to be trendy. I am very keen to be faithful and that has a healthy respect and consideration for what has happened beforehand.

The issue, however, is more about are we sensitive to what you’re saying now, are we doing your will now?

For His Name’s Sake

C. L. J. Dryden
