Psalm 38 – When I Find Myself In Times Of Trouble

It is very rare to come across a song written for the congregation that is about what we do when we find ourselves in times of trouble.

By that I am referring to the creative expression in song of times when you are beset on every side by opposing forces. So much is written about victory and great living and loving that there’s some disconnect with the real challenges of life.

Thank God for Psalms like this one that are not about everything working out just find. This is not cracking on because of a victorious lifestyle no, this is written in the very grip of opposition.

Modern scenarios would mention a wide variety of issues we struggle against that can bring us to soberly reflect on our own life and relationship with God. It should also bring out the cry for help to God. A cry for help that isn’t wrapped up in pious words, but the cry of the heart desperate for His intervention in the situation.

Thank God for expression of life like this that gives reference for real life struggles and real life need for help. Let it be an inspiration for us to pursue expression to God of the variety of life issues.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
