There is comfort in certainty.
Sometimes, however, what appears certain might be founded on something very uncertain indeed.
Some have a comfort in the certainty of who is spiritual in the church community. They have a comfort in what is supposed to take place in the church setting and who should be doing what. That comfort in certainty is reinforced by models of church that reinforce it. And as long as there is the spiritual guru and there is a format that allows me to pay into spiritual information being downloaded, that’s all that matters.
There is much more to belonging to God than that. The certainty on which it is based is incomplete at best and a travesty at its worse.
Belonging to God as a whole life exercise really does involve all of life. That’s catered for in the Body of Christ when we submit ourselves to His leading for us as a community of grace. That is liberating to the person who isn’t a speaker, singer, academic, musician or administrator – their function in His Body is just as important. Now it’s to uncover what that looks like as we explore life together where it’s not just I am His – it’s We Are His.
For His Name’s Sake
