John 9 features one of my favourite episodes in the gospels namely that of sight being given to the man born blind.
I love it. The disciples questioning Jesus, the response Jesus gives, the process by which the man gets his sight, the encounter with the Pharisees and the riff Jesus takes on the whole blindness/sight thing.
A part I particularly chuckle at is when the Pharisees, divided by the incident and failing to believe he had his sight given. Having failed to get far with the man’s parents, their approach to him kicks off with this,
A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.” – John 9:24
Even when it is clear that the truth has been told, some people struggle to accept it. This cost the man access to the temple, but he was then embraced by the man who gave sight back to him.
Telling the truth about the amazing work of God in our life won’t always meet with acceptance, but whatever the doubters and mockers say, it can never overcome the truth.
